FAFSA SAI UPDATE- 3/5/2024

Based off the comparison charts of EFC to SAI, the scholarship application will have a verbiage change only. The words "Estimated Family Contribution/ EFC" will be replaced with "Student Aide Index/ SAI".  All values on the application and scoring rubric will remain the same.

Do I have to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to apply?

A. Yes. Each Texas FFA Scholarship applicant must complete the FASFA during their senior year (applications typically open on October 1 each year however they opened in December 2023 for 2024-2025 application) and report the SAI within the scholarship application. You will also need to attach the FASFA Student Aid Index (SAI) to the application. When your FAFSA form is complete and fully processed, your estimated federal student aid and SAI will display under the “Eligibility Overview” tab of your online FAFSA Submission Summary. More information on the SAI and the SAI calculator can be found here.

FAFSA SAI Update- 3/26/24

The 2024 Texas FFA Scholarships Application will require students to utilize the Student Aid Calculator as their financial aid verification for the 2024 scholarship process. This will alleviate the delay issues we have been experiencing with the SAI from FAFSA. The tool is simple to use and takes less than 3 minutes for students and their parents to complete.

The following documents are required for the FAFSA section of the 2024 application:

  • FAFSA Submission Confirmation Page Email (showing your students did submit their FAFSA application, students get this when the submit)

  • Students that have a processed SAI from FAFSA can use the report for the confirmation above.

  • SAI Calculator Simulator: Estimated Student Aid Index (SAI) PDF Download

Texas FFA will continue to work with FAFSA and the requirements for a fully processed FAFSA with an SAI score will return in 2025 as a Texas FFA Scholarship requirement.
