Kentucky Equine Management Internship

The Kentucky Equine Management Internship (KEMI) program is dedicated to improving the opportunities for college students wishing to pursue a career in the field of equine management. KEMI offers a comprehensive educational experience for students enrolled for academic credit through a sponsoring college or university, or for recent graduates of such institutions.

Through the internship, students integrate academic studies with practical experience, leadership and responsibility as a contributing participant on a Central Kentucky horse farm. Aside from farm commitments, students are introduced into a network of equine professionals representing multifaceted careers in the equine profession. During the first week of the course, students participate in Orientation activities as a group. After the first week, students are employed full-time by participating farms where they become familiar with the day-to-day management of horses on commercial thoroughbred farms.

Applications Are Open!

Applications for the Spring 2024 Kentucky Equine Management Internship are now open! We are excited to offer weekly virtual Q&A sessions for all questions and inquiries about the internship. Additionally,…

Angus Talon Internship
Ready to gain hands-on experience on the ranch?

Student applications for the prestigious Angus/Talon Youth Educational Internship are due December 1, 2023 for the summer and fall 2024 internship offerings. The program is funded by the Angus/Talon Youth Education Learning Program Endowment Fund, a donation of the late Camron "Cam" Cooper of Talon Ranch, to ensure educational learning experiences for youth. This program pairs Angus farms and ranches with outstanding college students.
Interns receive compensation through the endowment and are mentored by their farm or ranch host for a life and career-transforming experience. While each intern’s activities will depend on the operation they are paired with, they will gain a hands on education about farm and ranch management spanning all aspects of the cattle industry - operations, breeding, business decisions, and more. Many interns choose to earn academic credit for their internship and fall interns have the opportunity to take classes while they participate in their internship.

Selection of intern/host pairings is highly competitive and determined by a committee with a sharp focus on expected outcomes, ensuring the right student with the right host for the right fit.

Additional information, including the application, is available on the Angus Foundation website.

Amplify Horse Racing Internship

Youth Invited to Explore World of Thoroughbred Racing through

Spring 2024 Amplify Mentorship Program

LEXINGTON, KY (January 15, 2024) – Amplify Horse Racing is accepting applications for the spring 2024 intake of its Mentorship Program, now through January 31. The program provides an introductory step for youth and young adults who want to learn more about the Thoroughbred industry by matching them with experienced industry professionals who can offer career guidance. The spring session will run from March 1 through May 31.

The suggested age range for mentee candidates is 15-25, with no restrictions based on academic achievement. The program is also accepting potential mentors who have over 6 years of work experience in the Thoroughbred or broader equine industry, and can meet the program’s minimum training requirements, background check, and time commitment. All applicants must be residents of the United States, U.S. territories, or Canada.

Amplify will also award travel grants to outstanding mentees of 2024 who complete their intake of the program having demonstrated a strong work ethic and dedication to pursuing involvement in the Thoroughbred industry. Award recipients will have the opportunity to travel to Kentucky for a weekend of behind-the-scenes tours in November, and will be recognized at Amplify’s annual youth and young adult Thoroughbred industry networking event.

“I cannot thank Amplify enough for the opportunities they provide for those looking to get into the equine industry,” said 2021 mentee Blake Willison. “I was a recent graduate from Detroit who had no experience working with horses, yet that didn’t deter them. They paired me up with an incredible mentor who helped teach me the ins and outs of the industry; while simultaneously helping to find job opportunities that fit my background. Amplify opened doors for me that I didn’t even know existed, and I owe them a ton of credit for landing my current job with Taylor Made Farm.”

To learn about the program and apply today, prospective mentors and mentees can visit www.amplifyhorseracing.org/mentorship, or contact info@amplifyhorseracing.org for more information.
