The 97th Annual Texas FFA Convention embraced the theme “Legacy,” celebrating the lasting impact of agricultural education and student empowerment across the Lone Star State.
Guided by the phrase “Honoring our Roots, Growing our Future,” the theme aimed to inspire members to make their mark within their chapters, districts, areas, and across Texas by building on the foundation laid by those who came before them and encouraging the next generation to do the same.
“It’s the energy to rise, expand, and innovate without ever losing sight of grit, courage, and culture that built it,” the 2024-2025 State Officer Team said.

Every member brought their own unique perspective on what legacy meant and why it held significance in their lives.
“I think the theme is fitting because FFA has a lasting legacy within many communities,” said Ryder Russell, Whitesboro FFA member.
One member, Samuel Whalen from Pearland FFA, started an initiative that fostered connection within his community. At the end of the year, he hosted a dinner bringing together farmers, ranchers, and community members.

“[Within my chapter] I want to be remembered for starting the Pearland FFA Farm to Plate committee,” Whalen said.
For some, legacy began with them. Being the first to step into agricultural leadership and hoping to pass those traits down, that is how Wheeler FFA member, David Samaniego, plans to leave his mark.
“Coming from a family that had never been in agriculture, I feel like I am starting a legacy,” said Samaniego. “And that way, I can show my kids one day, and they can do the same.”
Others see legacy as the imprint they leave behind, and how their actions impact those around them.
“I loved the theme this year,” said Kendra Ratliff, Valley View FFA member. “I think it’s really special because people will remember how you made them feel and what you truly did.”
