One hundred and six Texas FFA area officers attended the 2022 Texas FFA State Leadership Conference [SLC] where the members worked to develop leadership skills and tools, and receive facilitation training.

The event was held May 28- 31, 2022 in San Angelo, Texas at Angelo State University.

The State Leadership Conference [SLC] is a professional development conference for all elected Texas FFA area officers and hosted by the Texas FFA Association and state officer team.

The conference is held in a professional environment, providing students with the opportunity to learn from the developed curriculum and guest speakers. This atmosphere is designed to help students feel empowered to work on committees where their voices are heard, learn from facilitated workshops, and from one another.

“State Leadership Conference was by far the most enriching leadership event I’ve ever had the pleasure of attending,” said Jacqueline Rand of Lindale FFA. “From the workshops to laughing around the dinner table, every aspect that the state officers and Texas FFA staff worked to include, proved purposeful in preparing us for our year of service as area officers.”

The conference featured an impressive group of speakers including Texas FFA Executive Director Jennifer Jackson, Texas FFA Foundation Executive Director Aaron Alejandro, and National FFA Officer Mallory White. The members had the pleasure of hearing from each of these speakers to further develop their understanding of leadership and prepare them for their upcoming year of service.

“It was so encouraging to be surrounded by individuals with such big hearts for servant leadership, '' said Rand. “I believe that the future of Texas FFA is very bright!”

The four-day-long conference was packed with skill-based workshops, instruction on how to best utilize leadership development tools, and a business session where members' voices were heard. Attendees also participated in a community service project to promote agricultural literacy in the classroom, and of course, were able to socialize and meet other members from all over the state.

“This year’s State Leadership Conference was one of the most incredible experiences I’ve ever had as an FFA member,” said Miranda Skaggs of Rudder FFA. "I will forever cherish the lessons learned, memories made, and connections developed throughout my time at the conference. I’m grateful to have been surrounded by true servant leaders and know that Texas FFA is in great hands!”

Attendees were given the tools to reflect on and reproduce the training received to other levels and members throughout their areas. Each area’s officers are gearing up and preparing to host  Leadership Conferences of their own, where they will then be able to take the skills learned and facilitate that knowledge to the members of their home areas.
