Shoemaker FFA member Sean Chavez’s Supervised Agriculture Experience might be atypical, but he has created the opportunity to combine his passions for photography and the FFA.
“I decided to pursue photography [as my SAE] because it’s an amazing outlet to showcase the different aspects of FFA,” said Chavez. “With today’s technology and rise of social media as the way most young adults get their news, a really great photo can spark interest or emotion in something important.”

Chavez recognizes that his experiences in FFA cultivated his communication skills, as well as his confidence in his talent.
“Once I realized that I had a marketable skill and was shown what opportunities photography could bring I decided to turn my hobby into a business,” said Chavez.
Photographers use their cameras as tools. It takes practice and talent to learn how to learn about composition, light, exposure, as well as editing techniques that will take photos from novice to professional.

“Through a lot of research, I was able to successfully go from capturing images of my friends at school to capturing images at various major events,” said Chavez.
He has been granted credential media access to cover various large-scale events hosted by recognizable names such as Professional Bull Riders, Inc. and the NCAA.

“Over the last four years I've really enjoyed showcasing the many things the FFA has to offer though photography,” said Chavez. “Texas is a vast and diverse state, so why not enjoy taking photos to help capture the various things that make it unique.”
