The 90th Annual Texas FFA State Convention kicked-off with a concert featuring a band hailing straight from the Texas Panhandle, Flatland Cavalry.

The band opened with a medley of songs, bringing the crowd to their feet.

The Country-Folk-Americana band played hits including “Coyote,” “Summer Love” and “No Shade of Green.”

“It’s awesome having famous Texas singers come and perform for us,” said Jordan VanDevender of Buna FFA.

Flatland Cavalry connected with the crowd through their Texas-style music. The group originated in Lubbock in the fall of 2012 and later gained nationwide recognition after the release of their debut EP, “Come May.”

“Their music is different from other Texas country singers, they have this unique sound,” said Madison Rose of El Campo FFA. “I could turn on the radio and I could say instantly, ‘oh, that’s Flatland!’”

During the concert, FFA members were encouraged to meet fellow students from across the state, setting the tone for the 90th annual Texas FFA Convention.

“They definitely had an acoustic feel to them,” said Sierra Garcia of Gilmer FFA. “It was a good show!”
