Canton FFA Celebrates 75 Years
Wednesday, December 1, 2010 | Author: Kelly Mabe, Canton FFA Advisor

On November 1, 2010 the Canton FFA Chapter celebrated 75 years as a Texas FFA Chapter.  The National FFA, formerly known as Future Farmers of America, was established in 1928.  The FFA underwent a name change in 1988, from Future Farmers of America to National FFA Organization, to better reflect the expanded agricultural opportunities, encompassing science, business and technology, in addition to production farming.

The Canton FFA Chapter was chartered on November 1, 1935 as the 249th chapter in Texas FFA Association. Texas today has well over 1,000 active FFA chapters. For the past 75 years, Canton has produced students who leave high school prepared to become productive citizens in our Texas communities.  The National FFA Organization is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.  To accomplish its mission, FFA:

•Develops competent and assertive agricultural leadership.
•Increases awareness of the global and technological importance of agriculture and its contribution to our well-being.
•Strengthens the confidence of agriculture students in themselves and their work.
•Promotes the intelligent choice and establishment of an agricultural career.
•Encourages achievement in supervised agricultural experience programs.
•Encourages wise management of economic, environmental and human resources of the community.
•Develops interpersonal skills in teamwork, communications, human relations and social interaction.
•Builds character and promotes citizenship, volunteerism and patriotism.
•Promotes cooperation and cooperative attitudes among all people.
•Promotes healthy lifestyles.
•Encourages excellence in scholarship

On November 1, 2010 the Canton FFA Chapter hosted a 75th Anniversary Celebration. Chapter and Greenhand officers, as well as members, worked hard to paint signs and decorate the high school for the FFA Anniversary Celebration.

First on the list of important guests was the Texas FFA Travel Team, consisting of Mason Parish, Texas FFA President, as well as Daylon Koster, Texas FFA First Vice President, and Tanner Smith, the Texas FFA Area VI State Vice President.  These guys travel thousands of miles across the state of Texas in their FFA Ford F-150, visiting the Texas FFA chapters.

After the 75th Celebration Assembly, the state officer travel team spoke with all the Agriculture Science students at Canton High School.  The state officers encouraged and motivated students to keep a positive attitude.  They taught students about the importance of attitude and just how contagious an attitude can be.
