The 89th Annual Texas FFA State Convention kicked-off with a concert by Texas native Aaron Watson. The country singer opened up the concert with a medley of songs that brought the crowd to their feet.
The singer-songwriter played his hit songs like “That Look”, “July in Cheyenne” and “Getaway Truck”. And shared some personal stories about the inspiration behind his songs.
“Aaron Watson is such a great singer and songwriter, but more than that, he’s an awesome entertainer,” Iola FFA member Landry Cunningham said. “He was definitely getting the crowd going.”
The performer kept members engaged as he cracked jokes and had the crowd singing along to boot-stomping tunes. Watson also created a sentimental mood throughout the concert when he spoke personally about his losses in life. As the artist sang “Bluebonnets in the Spring”, members lit up the arena to remember the ones they’ve lost.
“Aaron Watson has the values that are in line with the FFA. He understands the importance of family as well as how to connect with young adults of the FFA,” said McKenna Holloway, Anderson-Shiro FFA member.
Watson ended the concert by showcasing his band members and taking pictures with fans on stage. The kick-off concert definitely set the tone for this week’s convention. “Aaron Watson gave us the opportunity to begin the week with everyone excited and energized for what’s to come during convention,” stated Holloway.
