A Lifetime of Blue and Gold: Honoring Dr. Steve "Doc" Forsythe

The Texas FFA Association honored Dr. Steve Forsythe with the esteemed Blue and Gold Award during the 98th Annual Texas FFA Convention.
This award is reserved for and bestowed upon those adults who have rendered extraordinary service to the Texas FFA Association, Texas FFA Foundation and/or to the agricultural education community.
Forsythe has dedicated his life and career to agricultural education and the Texas FFA. He began his career as an agricultural science teacher in Ysleta ISD, where he taught from 1973 to 1978 and again from 1984 to 1996. From 1998 to 2000, he served on the Texas FFA state staff before returning to the classroom. He later spent 17 years serving as the agricultural science teacher and FFA advisor at Lampasas High School.
Even in retirement, Doc’s commitment to agricultural education has never slowed. He serves on the VATAT Credit Union Board, mentors and supervises student teachers from across Texas and continues to invest his time and knowledge in the next generation of agricultural educators.
Those who know Doc know that his greatest contribution cannot be summed up on a resume. It is found in his genuine love for the Texas FFA and the people who make up the organization. Few people know the history of Texas FFA as well as he does, and even fewer cherish and protect that history as deeply.
“Like the wise owl that symbolizes knowledge and wisdom, Doc has spent a lifetime preserving our traditions, sharing our story and reminding us why this organization matters,” said Texas FFA Executive Director Jennifer Jackson.
Throughout his career, Doc has consistently chosen to focus on the good in agriculture, agricultural education, teachers and students. Through his servant leadership, optimism and genuine care for others, he has become an example of what it means to give back to an organization that has given so much to generations of students and agricultural educators.
“May we all strive to love, serve and protect the Texas FFA with the same passion, humility and unwavering commitment that Dr. Steve ‘Doc’ Forsythe has demonstrated throughout his remarkable career,” said Jackson.
