The selection process to receive the Texas nomination for National FFA office takes place at the state convention held in July. An eleven member committee of area officers (one representative from each area and a chairperson elected at large) directly parallels the National FFA's officer election process in order to select the most qualified candidate to compete for a position on the National Officer Team. This system is designed to reveal an individual's true personality, agricultural knowledge and leadership abilities through several competency testing rounds including: a written test, workshop, SAE writing prompt, writing exercise, stand and deliver practicum, round robin interviews, one on one interviews and a personal round. The chosen candidate will then serve at the Texas representative and advance to the National election held at the National Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana.
National Officer Application
The National Officer Application can be downloaded from the bottom of this page. Because some of the information in this application will not be needed until after Texas has selected a candidate, for the Texas Selection Process candidates may omit sections: Section 1 Part 3 – Jacket and Ring Size, Section 1 Part 5 – Convention Hotel and Registration, and Section 2 Part 3 – Letters of Reference*.
* Section 2 Part 3 – Three letters of Reference should be submitted; however, one of the letters DOES NOT have to be from a State Staff member. A letter from a State Staff member will be submitted after a candidate is chosen to represent Texas at the National Level.
An American Degree Application does NOT need to be attached to the National Officer Application; however, the SAE scope page (Section 2 Part 4) of the application must be completed.
National Officer Candidate Applications are due to the state director by noon on Friday of the State Degree Check.
